Ingredients

  • 1 (9.8-ounces) bag Fresh Express® Creamy Mushroom Caesar Chopped Kit
  • 1 lb. ground turkey
  • 6 hamburger buns
  • 1 small onion, fine diced
  • 1 carrot, shredded
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • ½ cup crispy chow mein noodles
  • ½ cup hoisin sauce
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • ¼ cup rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion, garlic, and ginger until softened, about 3 minutes.
  • Add ground turkey, breaking it up into smaller pieces as it cooks until browned, about 7 minutes. Stir in five-spice powder.
  • Open Fresh Express ®Creamy Mushroom Caesar Chopped Salad and remove croutons; set the rest of the salad aside. Crush the croutons into crumbs.
  • Stir in hoisin, soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, tomato sauce, and crushed croutons. Simmer 10-15 minutes until thickened, stirring in shredded carrot halfway.
  • Place the rest of the salad contents in a mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly and set aside.
  • Toast buns lightly. Spoon mixture onto buns, top with salad, and about a tablespoon of chow mein noodles. Serve immediately.

Chef Tips:

When adding the five-spice powder to the browned turkey, let it cook for about 60 seconds before adding any liquids to intensify the flavors.
Ground turkey is leaner than beef and can become dry if overcooked. Keep the heat on a low simmer after adding the sauce to prevent boiling away the moisture from the meat.
Keep the salad chilled before tossing it to appropriately balance the heat and spice of the sauce.
